Undersheriff Edward Frank Bowers, Jr.

Bowers was shot and killed by a man who had been drinking and  firing his rifle in his house.

Undersheriff Bowers and Maricopa County  Deputy Crowe went to the residence of Frank George because he had been drinking  and was shooting his rifle inside his house.  Bowers went to the front and Crowe  to the back.  George was hiding behind a drapery and shot Bowers once in the  chest.  Bowers ran from the house, but fell dead about seventy-five yards away.   Crowe saw all this and fired at George, hitting him twice in the leg.  George  was charged with murder.

Undersheriff Bowers was survived by his wife and  four children.
